Environmental Clearance and Compliance

BCCL pioneered cluster concept for preparation of EIA-EMPs for grant of EC of its mines. Mines of BCCL were grouped into clusters based on Geo-Environmental rationale for environmental benefits. MoEFCC has approved Cluster Concept for obtaining environmental clearance for all the mines of BCCL  into 17 Clusters and has already issued Environment clearance of 16 clusters covering all its mines & its  integrated washeries  in Jharkhand. The cluster concept facilitates pooling of resources for better & comprehensive environmental Management. In new washeries, EC of Patherdih 5MTPA & 2.5 MTPA, Madhuband 5 MTPA, Dahibari washery 1.6 MTPA obtained.

BCCL has taken prompt action for compliance, which includes some new studies for a coalfield such as source apportionment study, satellite based thermal IR survey for fire through NRSC, satellite based land use monitoring, health surveillance of workforce through NIOH, Hyderabad etc.
